The Las Cruces Community Theatre will be holding auditions for the iconic classic musical The Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum with the music and lyrics from the MGM movie by Harold Arlen and E. Y. Harburg on Sunday June 26th and Monday June 27th at 6:30 pm at the theatre, 313 N. Main Street. This show will be directed by Janet Beatty-Payne, music directed by Meagan Higgins, and choreographed by Karlos Saucedo & Janet Beatty-Payne. Performances will be Dec 2nd-18th for 10 performances of Fridays-Sundays with one Thursday performance on Dec 15th. Auditions are being held early to provide time for all costumes to be created for the show. Rehearsal will begin in October. Needed are 15-20 males and females from ages 10 years-70 years old. No roles are pre-cast. Children and teens are encouraged to audition for numerous roles as Munchkins/Flying Monkeys/People of Oz/Chorus/Etc. Please prepare a Broadway style song for the audition for all roles except Dorothy. Young ladies between the ages of 13-23 years old who wish to be considered for the role of Dorothy should prepare to sing the song “Over the Rainbow” for their audition. An accompanist will be provided. A short dance routine will be taught as part of the audition, so please come in appropriate clothing. Please be advised that the roles of the Wicked Witch of the West and the Wizard are non-singing roles, so cold readings from the script will be required for these roles. As well, live dogs will be used for Toto during the production, so if working with, or being near dogs is a problem for you, please don’t audition.
